2. Lyon
Stay
About the destination: Historically renowned for its silk exchange and medieval fairs, Lyon is France’s second largest city and one of Europe’s finest gastronomic capitals. The heart of Lyon lies on a spit of land between the Rivers Rhône and Saône, and is split by the city’s artery, rue Victor Hugo. Part-Dieu, on the east bank of the Rhône, is the city’s financial district. The vieille ville, on the west bank, is a neighbourhood of 17th and 18th century houses and cobblestone lanes. Best seen from across the Saône, the Cathedrale St-Jean rises amid red tiles and grey stone, oblivious to the passing barges. It’s noted for its strongly articulated nave and flamboyant rose windows. From the Fourvière esplanade you can gaze down onto the urban sprawl. There is a large selection of museums with spectacular collections in Lyon, exhibiting everything from fabrics and banking to Gallo Roman life and local history. In Lyon, people don’t eat, they dine. You cannot leave without indulging yourself with the great cuisine lyonnaise. Of course whatever you eat, wash it down with a local Beaujolais or a white burgundy from the neighbouring Mâcon villages.

Perpignan

3. Perpignan
Stay
About the destination: The capital of Roussillon, part of Catalonia annexed by Louis XIII in 1641, in many ways still feels as much Spanish as French. Located on the foothills of the Pyrenees, Perpignan is known for its vineyards and its delicious fruits and vegetables, the main reasons for its economic growth. Spanish influence persists here and the city has a distinctly multicultural character. Historically, Perpignan was capital of the kingdom of Mallorca, and it retains its royal past. A prove of that is the beautiful palace of the kings of Mallorca, a majestic Gothic style building. The old town, with its warren of alleys and decaying buildings colored in shades of lemon, peach and tangerine, houses Saint-Jean Cathedral, which construction started in 1324 and lasted more than 200 years. The temple has rich altarpieces and under the organ case a passageway provides access to the Romanesque chapel of Notre - Dame- dels - Correchs where numerous relics are preserved. Behind Saint –Jacques church, at the top of the city walls, we find La Miranda, one of the most popular parks of the city, with a distinctly Mediterranean flora. The city has three faces: the lively Old Town with its Spanish roots, the ancient capital of the kingdom of Mallorca and the multicultural district of Saint –Jacques, which features a large choice of cafes and restaurants. People here are enormously friendly and the countryside is perfect for leisure exploration, which makes Perpignan a popular tourist destination.

4. Moraira
Stay
About the destination: Moraira (Valencian pronunciation: [moˈɾajɾa]) is a small, upmarket Spanish coastal town, part of Teulada (also known as Teulada-Moraira) municipality, in the Marina Alta comarca, 80 km north of Alicante and 100 km south of Valencia. The town is located adjacent to the neighbouring village of El Portet and both communities form a tourist resort on the Costa Blanca strip, with 8 km of coastline backed by mountains and vineyards. The area around Moraira has been inhabited since prehistory. Objects found in the Cova de la Cendra archaeological site on Cap d'Or - adjacent to the town - revealed that human habitation can be traced back to the Upper Paleolithic era. Pots linked to the Iberians have also been found on Cal d'Or, suggesting that they later inhabited the area during the Bronze Age. Following the Umayyad conquest of Hispania, the area was eventually settled by Moors are influence of that culture can still be seen today in the region's architecture and municipal layouts. Many of the names in the Teulada-Moraira area derive from the Moor settlement - such as Alcassar, Benimeit, Benimarco, Moravit, Pouet del Morro and Tabaira. Indeed, local legend suggests that Moraira was named after the Moorish princess Ira, la Mora.

6. Orleans
Stay
About the destination: Orleans is the capital of the Centre-Val de Loire region of north-central France, located some 120 km south-west of the French capital Paris. The main reason to travel here is not the city itself, but the many castles in the area. Some of the most famous and beautiful 'Chateaux' in the Loire Valley are: the 'Chateau de Chinon', the 'Chateau d'Azay-le-Rideau', the 'Chateau de Langeais', the 'Chateau de Villandry', the 'Chateau de Chenonceau', the 'Chateau d'Amboise', the 'Chateau de Chaumont sur Loire', the 'Chateau de Blois', the 'Chateau de Cheverny' and last, but definitely not least, the 'Chateau Royal de Chambord'. This latter one, probably, is the most famous Castle in France. Visiting it, is not only recommended, but compulsory. A visit to Orleans would not be complete without a visit to the Cathedral. With a similar design to Notre Dame in Paris, the Cathedral can been seen above the buildings from most of the town. Another major attraction of the city is the House of Joan of Arc, the heroine of the city. The best way to get to know Orleans is to walk around the center of town, or along the banks of the river Loire and visiting some of the city's great boulangeries.
